‘Poppy Drive’ affordable housing development at Coningsby has been completed and handed over at the beginning of September, to Waterloo Housing by our client GEDA Construction.
The twenty-six-house development is made up of one to four bedroom new build affordable houses set on the outskirts of Coningsby and open Lincolnshire countryside, just around the corner from the historic RAF Coningsby airfield, home to the Battle of Britain visitor centre.
We designed the timber frame, two storey houses to consider local existing materials and detailing. Our concept was to create well designed dwellings incorporating best practice environmental features encouraging excellent thermal insulation levels, and achieving a Code for Sustainable Homes level 3.
The ethos behind the development was to create an inclusive cul-de-sac layout, respectful of the existing housing and surrounding farmland. As much of the existing landscaping as possible has been retained and the access road positioned next to the farmland to create some distance between development and open countryside.
The houses have been specified to have deep rear gardens to respect the existing properties, prevent overlooking concerns and create a buffer to the farmland. There is a central Green and areas of rich landscaping to reinforce the semi-rural setting and feeling of space.
