We were delighted to be invited to attend Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal open East Durham College’s redeveloped Houghall Campus, on Friday 13th January.
Jefferson Sheard Architects worked with the region’s leading land-based College to deliver its extensive £12.75 million redevelopment as part of its plans to fully modernise the entire site, which originally opened in the thirties.
The Princess’s visit included a tour of the new twenty-four stable block equine centre and impressive indoor arena; the new agriculture centre; and the new small animal care centre, including the dog grooming studio, lizard workshop and small mammals workshop; and the refurbished main front building.
East Durham College Director of Estates, Jim Blower, commented “Not only does our redevelopment at Houghall fit exactly with our curriculum offer and their requirements, the buildings look superb, fit into the environment very well and we have received numerous compliments. The design fits so well into the current Houghall environment that it seems they were always meant to be there, but with the modern feel we so desired.”
