Harvest Road Student Accommodation

Written by Joe Dickeson Board Director

Jefferson Sheard Architects, along with client Danehurst Developments, have delivered a scheme to provide accommodation for 166 students over several 2-4 storey blocks.

The new buildings sit within leafy surroundings, arranged thoughtfully around intensive curated landscaping and a series of social courtyard spaces. The site is located adjacent to the Royal Holloway University Campus.

Jefferson Sheard Architects helped guide the scheme through a series of consultations with local planning officers and the public, preparing and presenting concept development as it evolved to produce an informed solution that suited the site and responded to stakeholder input.

Design

The architecture interprets the local traditional domestic form whilst introducing a palette of contemporary materials and a creative composition that provides decorative interest and reduces the built mass. The relationship with nearby residential properties was an important element to consider, with the scale and orientation of the proposals exercising sensitivity by responding to context.

In-use

The interiors have been designed to create a modern luxurious atmosphere, maintaining clean lines whilst incorporating rich colours and textures for warmth in the space.
