A long standing client of ours, Peterborough Regional College approached us with a brief to rationalise their estate, increasing spatial efficiency and sustainability.
The outcome of the rationalisation is a new fitness centre, sports science laboratory, dance studio, exhibition space, small animal care facility, various refurbishment works and extensions.
In order to extend the College’s Community Offer, the College wanted to incorporate a fitness suite into the Sports Hall complex to cater for the general public. The most significant aspect of the project is the new entrance, which is both visually exciting and functional.
The College also wanted to improve their facilities to support their Performing Arts Curriculum and Entrepreneurial Curriculum. We designed a new multi-functional, flexible, Performance and Exhibition space, now known as The Enterprise Lounge. The design team was required to create a sustainable, cost effective and space saving design which would transform an under-used and difficult to maintain external courtyard into a positive space.
The resulting design makes clever use of the existing external walls of the courtyard with an addition of two glazed screens, and has allowed the College to retain significantly more of the existing mature landscaping than had been the case in previous proposals.
